Dear VG,

Initially it looked Crassula ovata (the commonly named Jade Plant), but upon further review.....

Maybe it's a Senecio, a plant that has succulent members(from South Africa) that's a member of the daisy family - I base this on the fact that you wrote that its flowers were several different colors. Some Senecios' flowers undergo color changes as they bud and open.

Can you describe the flowers?

I believe it's Portulaca oleracea.

Thanks, Rosemarie - VG was on the right track with her moss rose comment, wasn't she?

Yep, that looks to be it! Thanks so much Rosemarie. Mystery solved.

Hmph!

I hate that stuff, it's a weed in my area and grows out of the smallest cracks in the sidewalk and pavers in the back yard.

If you want any more I can trade you some, LOL.

I've also seen it at the market, which makes me wonder if there is anything that people wont eat.

BTW: It's leaf size reduces dramatically. In the begining of spring I was too lazy to pull it out and figured it would just get trampled underfoot and die. It came back with a vengence but with dramatically smaller leaves.

Jeff, on a fast glance it does look like a crassula.

Dawn

It's tasty.

I had it come up in one of my outdoor pots as a weed and as I grow all of my plants organically I snacked on the foliage from time to time. The seeds don't taste all that great, though.

I'm going to grow a small bed of it next year.
