David: I wish I could claim the full responsibility of producing this big plant, but previously I got this plant from a friend who is a nursery man who grew this plant for almost 10 years since it was imported from Japan, so I am not sure how old it is exactly but must be more than 12 years for sure.

Pijaya

Hmmm more then 12 years... If it's seed grown it won't be much older then that as this plant was only discovered in 1991 or 92. Unless it's a collected plant.
Very beautiful specimen!

Hi Pieter
Good point! You know what I also wonder about that also:)! Perhaps it was originally a collected plant afterall!! (Not that I support it:( If so then it seems that it has outgrown much of it's original habitat epidermis.

Pijaya

Collecting is a widespread problem. I regularly come across plants that I wonder about even though the trade in plants is really pretty well-regulated in this country. New species tend to be embargoed on the show benches until cultivated specimens become widely available.

I take it by DVLs reaction this is a rare sight!
It is a nice plant, love the texture of the ribs!
I am familiar with A ritteri but this is the other one in the genus.

I don't know what to say... that's just so nice! I almost fell off my chair ;)

Larry, the cactus is not very common in cultivation, newly discovered and slow-growing. This particular one is very clean and very large for a cultivated plant. So large that it may have been collected from the wild (illegal) or perhaps grafted as a seedling and then de-grafted later.
