I'll call the spines on #1 wonderful but cannot ID. #2 in my collection is labeled Mammillaria gracilis. Cannot say about the Noto. but nice spination as well as the flower.

Al

I second the 2nd, Mammillaria vetula ssp. gracilis (fragilis). AKA: Arizona snowcap I just love these guys. You have a ery nice one.

Dawn

I think the first may be M. magnifica. I have a very small one that hasn't flowered yet.

This is the time of year for Arizona Snowcap to flower. Mine sometimes squeezes some out in spring too, maybe just leftovers.

Oh, you're down under, I guess it is spring!

These are all very attractive, especially the first two! I love the spines on the first one, but then I love any plant that is unusual! Nice, if large, photos. Thanks for sharing.

Those are wonderful plants!
Someone just offered me a gracilis, and I said I already have it. However, mine looks very different from the plants posted, as it's a form with recurved spines. I think I better ask my trade partner what type she has! I love that ice-crystal look!

Jen, this form is a very common cultivar, but it is actually a monstrose form. I think it is common because it grows pups like crazy and they drop off whenever you repot! The regular species has white spines flattened against the body and often has pinkish flowers.

Nice plants Matthew, You Noto looks like concinnus to me, I'm really impressed with your long spined Mamm... there is a long spined form of Rekoi, I found a pic in Pilbeam's Mammillaria handbook that is very close to yours, the name that goes with the picture says M. rekoi affinity - Lau1314.My guess is that this is what you have. The most common form in cultivation has short spines.

Anyway mate, best of luck with them.

Cheers, CP

Lau1314 is M. rekoi ssp leptacantha, you can find pictures under that name.

Okay, thank you all for your inputs and Ids.
Thanks CP!

Thanks from me also SnB, it obviously hadn't been named when Pilbeam wrote his book!
