ItÂll be crown rot if there is a foul smell coming from the cup.

YouÂve done the right thing by adding a fungicide. I would now flush the plant out with fresh water, then tip it upside down to let all water drain out, then spray a little more fungicide into the cup. Keeping it reasonably dry, & giving it the occasional spray with fungicide should over come the crown rot, & keep the plant going so it will produce pups for you.

Do you know what genus it is?

It depends on how much crown is still remaining whether or not it can be expected to pup. If there's a hole in the center that goes all the way through, or if the base is all mush, forget it.

Physan is a bacteriacide/algicide, which is okay, but you might want to dust it with a fungicide as well. I would clean away all mushy parts with a knife, then treat it and let it dry out until the wounds have healed a bit.

Hi williamr - I read an article on experimental treatment of crown rot using unwashed beach sand in the Illawarra Bromeliad Society "Newslink".

Thank you for your responses everybody. Believe me I thought about bromeliad weevils, but it's definately a fungul infection. Devo, I think that will definately help, thank you. Lisa, it is a Catopsis, I think it's C.wangerinii. There isn't a hole and the base is firm however the bases of the leaves have turned kind of a watery off-green color(not sure how to approach cutting all the infection off) so I am hoping for the plant to send out just one pup to replace it. Interestingly, I have heard making a hole from the top through the base can actually encourage pupping, but I am not going to damage it any more than it is.
