The many faces of Cleopatra

I love the many different faces of Cleopatra.....most of my Cleo's are mainly yellow with a few red petals but I love when I get a big splash of red or one whole blossom is red in the middle of yellow. Here are some of my Cleo's from this summer.

Beautiful. I had one of those 2 years ago, but unfortunately it did not survive my cold cellar overwintering. Others did, but not Cleo. .....sniff. I really like it. Thanks for reminding me.

    Those are nice Cleos!
I think I read somewhere that if they have alot of purple striping on the leaves they will have more red on the blooms.
-Do you think this is true ?

This is my first year with Cleo with very little striping. Some of the stems are striped too. I have noticed that if the buds are red the flower will have red on them like in my picture with the foliage being all green. A very unique canna. Rebecca

Stephen, I did a little inventory in the garden to see if the plant in my original post had any striping. This plant has had more red in the flowers than any other plant. It does not have any striping at all. In fact, I thought I had mixed up my cannas when planting because I had bought several plain yellow cannas that I have not seen bloom yet....I have several Cleo's in a pot that had significant striping and they also had alot of red striping in the flowers but none of the flowers were entirely red like the one in my above post. Although the striping theory sounds reasonable, it does not hold true with my plants. Here are some pics of foliage and flower from my earlier Cleo's.

    Very nice Dig!
My Cleo's don't have too much striping , at least not like that last foliage pic.
