Now is the perfect time to divide cannas. If you have a lot, you can dig out a shovel full and move them. If it's only a couple of plants, why not dig them up and divide the rhizomes and transplant? Cannas are tough as nails. They can take a lot of rough treatment.

You'll still get blooms -- Canna aren't tempermental like that. Mine are sitting dry bagged up in boxes right now and they'll still bloom this summer.

So glad I found this post! I'd like to move one of my Cannas to a different spot, and because they stay in the ground all year, I'm unfamiliar with digging my Cannas. In order to get all of the Canna, should I insert my shovel a little beyond all the emerging leaves and then hoick out the mass? Or is there another way to move a Canna?
