hello

I recently recieved a canna in the mail and planted it around May 1st. It was a canna black....something, i forget the rest of the name but it has been a month now and their is no sign of life. When i dug up the rhizome it has still firm. It is in a large pot in an area that gets full sun aalmost all day. What is wrong?
