Not really knowing your growing conditions but I'm wondering if your cannas need to be dug up and divided. The poor flowering may be due to being overcrowded.

Another thought that just occured to me is that a friend of mine mentioned the other day that her mom, who lives in Washington, told her that they seem to have had a cooler Summer this year and none of her gardens really performed as well as in warmer years. Is it possible this may be the same for you and your growing area?

Jenna, good points. Another common reason for poor Canna performance is not enough water.

Shamrock, is your Summer dryer than usual? If so, you may have to supplement water.

If your Cannas had a virus (or a fungus - much more common), you'd know it just by looking at them.

Hi Steve!

Yes, we've had an unusally dry summer; however, I water the cannas every day after checking the soil. Some are tall, yet have no blooms. A few are just now sending out the blossoms and I'll be surprised if they come into full bloom. Even those in containers are slow and shorter than usual.
