Not Newbie... Dumbie!
Hello canna fans. I have been growing The Presidents for about six years and thought I had all my bases covered. "Oriental American" beetles no match for me and my plants have looked really good... until this year.
First there were the "machine gun bullet holes" in the leaves. A row of leaves with a straight line of holes across the leaves. I can find no responsible 6 or 8 legged/winged party.
Then I got "brown lacy areas", looks like see-through netting that turns brown in a 4-6" area on the leaves. Again, no bugs visible.
NOW I have "rolled leaves" which I searched here and found plenty of references to skip moth larva silk thread sewing. My leaves are like that but there's no thread and no catapillers. Just tightly rolled leaves which sometimes fold in half and droop. With all my problems I still get 4.5' to 6' plants in less than ideal light.
I'm a Zone 5A'er, Mid Hudson Valley NY and until this year I thought I was "Canna Harold"! H-E-L-P!
Thanx
