I am no expert but from what I have read as long as you put it in sunlight, water the canna and keep the temp above 60F it will grow in your pot. It may not bloom, but it will grow. I will be putting some in pots for the winter so I have more cannas to plant when spring comes around. If you do not wish to grow them over winter then take them out and store them.

If you decide to keep them in the pot I have heard stories of cannas crowding a pot and busting through it. Its never happened to me but I just spent 30 minutes removing a crowded bunch of Tropicanas from a 12" pot. If I would have kept it in there any longer I think it would have busted the container.

An 8" pot is very small for canna. If you plan to have them growing over the winter, you might be better served by putting them in bigger pots.

Dighappy, I keep all my cannas in pots. I leave them in the containers over the winter in a cool basement 45-55. No extra lights, water once every 6 wks. You do not want the soil to be moist just a 1/2 glass to moisten the soil so the bulbs do not dry out. If they are cool and wet the bulbs will rot.

About April you will see growth. I may water every three weeks then depending on if I see alot of growth but still not wet just damp.

Growing them this way will give you blooms earlier. My Cannas bloom before the end of July some bloomed the second week of June.
