How big are your rhizomes?

The largest rhizome, (behind the one my hand is next to), is 2 feet long and weighs about 8 pounds. Do I have the 'Robert Kemp' cultivar? Sorry, it stopped flowering a long time ago, so no pictures. The pseudostems are about 6 feet tall with very small and extremely compact red flowers. Not very showy but the hummingbirds love them!

Certainly looks like it could be RK. They produce very big rhizomes that over-winter well.

Mine are almost twice as big as last year. I made a new bed with lots of compost. I was amazed at how big they were. Your description sounds just like RK.

Some cannas make huge rhizomes, like Red Wine, Robert Kemp and Orange Beauty. Others like Richard Wallace and Florence Vaughn (aka Yellow King Humbert) make long ropey rhizomes. One of my cannas, I think it's Red Dazzler, makes such thick rhizomes that it's very difficult to divide it. Its eyes are clustered so close together on the fat rhizomes that they're nearly impossible to separate.
