I would not cut the roots. I store my bulbs for the winter dangling roots and all.

I usually trim the longest roots. It doesn't seem to hurt them. It is purely a question of preference. I admit that there is good argument for letting the longer roots dry up with the good going to the tuber.

My understanding is that the roots dry up and die anyway. The new plants come from the bulbs or rhisomes. Cheers, C
