We're here

I am definitely not a mountain/lake kind of person. It's very pretty here but there's nothing to do. I feel like I've been torn from civilization. It's one thing to be plopped down in the middle of a Central American rain forest but another to be in the God forsaken western part of Maryland. Give me the city or a beach any day of the week. So far the only plus is that the property is loaded with wild blueberry bushes but I'm afraid I'll run into a bear that's after the same berries! lol We'll probably do some boating and fishing tomorrow, maybe go explore some of the local caves. This is only a few hours away from where I live but it's so different. I can't imagine living out here and I have no idea what you'd do when it snows. You'd be stuck. I have to live near the city with lots of shopping. Hopefully my brugs will look good when I get home. There's several with buds and maybe they'll be open by then. I really want to see what that NOID orange really is. I'll be back to civilization at the end of the week. Thank goodness!

What??? No nurseries nearby??? Anything you can dig up/get seeds or cuttings that are of interest. Hope you have great luck fishing. Watch out for the bears!!!!

Karyn, are you near Deep Creek? I'd probably go water skiing every day! That's my favorite water sport.

I hate you are board. I love that type of thing. Go outside @ night just stand there look into hte sky and the silence is deafening. I LOVE IT! SO peaceful No hustle and bustle. Drink a wine cooler and relax... Tell stupid stories of Blonde momets near a campfire and you just have to roast weiners on a stick. They will have never tasted so good. Oh and before you leave you have got to experience a pee in the woods. Balance is Key! to far foward or backwards and well I just wont go there. LOL Have fun and Ill take care of your brugs. What was your address again. LOL

Lol, I hope you end up having a good time and don't suffer too much culture shock. I enjoyed my mini vacation and no catastrophes to the plants until I walked outside this evening and found my empty pond on top of several of my potted plants. Broke a rose bush and knocked over some plumies but the brugs just look bent over. Hopefully they will straighten out. I have no clue what happened unless the wind picked it up and sat it down on all the darn plants.

Dave we were in Deep Creek. It was actually a nice vacation but I'm still way more of a beach person. We did spend most of the time skiing, tubing and kayaking. We ended up not doing any fishing or exploring caves. I couldn't get a signal for my laptop, no TV to speak of and spotty cell service. If I'm doing the lake thing I prefer the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY. I might go back there but I'm not sure. You just have to drive so far to get anything and I'm not used to that. There's no shopping to speak of, no theater, museums, stuff like that. I couldn't imagine living there but plenty of people do.

Glad you are back. We were afraid a bear ate you since you didn't post all week, lol. Ok, I admit it we missed you too.

The kids were bummed that we didn't see any bears. I did see a lot of cool plants and loads of different kinds of fungi. I dug some stuff up and will try to find a place in the yard. Everything needs quite a bit of shade and leaf litter so I only brought back a small amount. The coolest thing was all the wild blueberries. They are everywhere. I went out every morning and picked them for breakfast. I need to get some plants ID's and will post pics later. Maybe someone here knows what they are. I think Linda in MD lives in the western part of MD and might be able to ID them for me.

My plants were in good shape for the most part. It must have rained here while we were gone. I only asked the neighbor's kids to water a few specific plants. There's just too many and I didn't want to have to give them more then $100 for the week. If they had to water everything on top of caring for the animals they'd have been here for at least a couple hours a day and I couldn't ask them to do that. A few brugs, passies, potted MG's and some others looked pretty bad but I think they'll recover if I cut them back. I was really expecting it to be much worse. Once again the most damage was from the &%#@ slugs!

Karyn, glad to know you are back at home, and that your plants weren't too bad off. Guess some of us are more city folk then others, LOL! Sounds like the place was wonderful, but I can only take like three days max. of that unless I am constantly on the move.

Bear was back in my yard the nite before last. Drove ole Tucker crazy. The bear, since it was a cub, make visits during the warm weather. Lays around the yard or as a cub dipped into the pool. Would rather have the bear around ... he does no damage ... compared to the wretched raccoons who are weaning the babies and they are sooo cute. (for now) Glad to see you are surviving your mountain man vacation, but know your plants will also be glad to have you come home. Safe travel, Gloria

ROTFLMAO!!! Now you know why I am so desperate to go ANYWHERE. I'm only about 45 minutes from the Lake. I'm almost always home, you should have called & we could have had a visit. There isn't a whole lot to do here. If you want to see boring, you should live where I do. The Lake is one of the nicer places.

Most of the bears aren't that big that I've seen, more like a big dog. They do tend to get into trash & ruin car paintjobs climbing on them so maybe you're better off not seeing them. We leave them alone & tend to go in the opposite direction if we come across one. Mothers with cubs are not safe at any distance.
