'Sweet Laura' grows fine for me, though the deer like to eat the buds off. I've got another one, 'Marmalade', that's taller and a very strong grower but isn't weedy like A. psitticina. Nothing special in their culture, just amended soil with about a half day of sun because that's all I had to offer.

I have also tried planting alstromeria and didn't have any luck beyond the summer. They didn't seem to like the heat.

Hey Spazzycat. I grow Sweet Laura. It is not my favorite because it needs support.Very floppy. And lemon yellow is a hard color for me to work with.
I do have another variety (don't know the name) that I got from BB that is variegated and does not flop. It is a ruby red with a lime green throat.
You are welcome to some when it comes up in Spring. I am always digging it up and giving it away or throwing it out. It multiplies very quickly.

Frogview, thanks, but I must pass on your kind offer. I did not realize that the deer liked Alstroemeria. I'm trying to make my garden more deer resistant by replacing some of the plants that deer find irresistable with those they don't.

Thanks, that sounds great. It is my goal to have a flower/cutting garden this year, so that will be a nice start. I don't have much that is tradeable, but I'm willing to give you anything I have in return.
