Beautiful! I especially like the way the BACK of the Multi Blue flower looks there on the right. I am new to clematis so I've tried two to start with: Niobe and Avante Garde. So far I was impressed that Niobe has already bloomed and it's only in a tiny 2" pot! I'd like to try growing it as a companion to a peachy or orangy rose like Crown Princess Margareta. I would like to try Jackmanii, Etoile Violette, Gillian Blades, and so many others that I'd better stop now.

Oops, I meant to ask in my first follow-up: It's obvious that you are growing Multi Blue on a rose. What rose is it? I hope you can post some pics when they are both in flower.

I'm puzzled by your comment about Cardinal Rouge. I had this plant for several years (until I sold the house, at which time it had outgrown its support, anyway).
I had absolutely no trouble with it ever wilting and it didn't bloom especially late for me, either. Mine got a bit of shade. Very pretty plant with lush foliage. I also liked the seed pod.
I was planning on planting another one in this new garden - are they known to be troublesome and I was just lucky with the one I had?

Just call me jealous..LOL..My Multi-Blue has never looked good!!..Jeanne
