Help with native(?) plant

If anyone can help me identify the name of a plant,I would greatly appreciate it.I live near the beach in North Litchfield,SC(near Pawleys Island.)There are alot of natural wetlands around and in one particular area there is a plant that has the most HORRIBLE smell-like a cross between mildew & road kill.The plant only sticks up out of the ground a few inches & goes back under again.It is a salmon pink color and you can smell it at least 10 ft away but I have not seen it any other place.It is very near a wetland area but not the marsh or beach.The ground there is kinda mushy & lots of wax myrtles and other native plants.Thank you for the help!!
