No such thing as too many. Look at how many varieties of roses are available today. Some fall out of favor and drop out of the commercial market. The same thing will happen with clematis. The really good ones will survive the competion and remain available.

Thankfully, I'm not keen upon every new variety that comes onto the market, but when I like something, I gotta have it! ... so, my collection grows and grows, from 30 plants to 40, 40 to 50, 50 to 60 ... then all the whack of seedlings I've hybridized, it's starting to overtake me!Though, it's no different with my rose collection and the hundreds of seedlings I set out each year. Sometimes I'm glad my winters are so long here, cause it really gives me a good long break from all the dang work I've made and continue to heap upon myself! Gardeners really are their own worst enemies!
