plants 50% off

Well, now that I have placed my order it is safe to let you guys know that Bluestone Perennials is having a clearance sale. Everything they have posted on their current website is 50% off. Just so you know I do not work for them or recieve any kickbacks just fulfilling my obligation as an enabler to my fellow flower addicts. I got a a couple of shade lovers astillbe, lungworts etc. I need a few more basic things to help fill out my garden. They do have other plants beyond the basics but I am trying to fill in a few gaps so I can showcase a few other things. Plus it is so much fun to receive things in the mail! Shannon/Dirtrx

Thanks for the link! I ordered a few things, hope they're in stock. Now I just have to hide them from my husband.

I ordered, too. I just needed some cheap fill-ins for dry sandy soil, so I got some Gaillardia and Armeria. That should do it until fall...

Ha ha, Sally..."that should do it until fall" are my famous last words! I always say that then can't stay away from garden centers, nurseries or farmers market and end up buying on impulse & having to find someplace to put things. I can't help myself--I think it's an illness.

Does Bluestone sell decent size plants? I might order tomorrow, payday. I hate it when I order from someplace and get this sick tiny stem that they are calling a "plant". Have any of you ordered from them before?

    Thanks,
    Susan

Before I started working at that place in Sanford, Bluestone was where I bought 90 percent of my perennials. Their selection is incredible and when I lived in PGH we even took a road trip to one of their infrequent open houses. Nice place way out in the country with huge greenhouses and lovely employees. They generally sell in three-packs which is about the same size as a four-pack but with three. The plants are small but usually the roots fill out the pack. They have one of the highest ratings on Garden Watchdog. Adele

I've been wanting to buy the Sissinghurst (SP??) verbena for weeks, literally weeks now. I actually have been on this site at least once a day filling up my cart and then chickening out because I really didn't have the money to spend. Not too mention that my husband would kill me if I bought any more plants because I still have approximately 20 plants that need to go in the ground.

. . . having said all that, I bought 6 verbena, 2 mountain laurels, 2 viburnums and 2 of the St. John's Wort shrubs. I'm sooooooooooooooo excited. Thank you dirtrx for sharing the information!! I just told my sister about it too!!
I can't believe that the very site that I've been drooling over is having this sale. Now only if it would rain, life would be perfect!!

It's soooo funny how everybody gets in trouble with hubbies for buying plants. This year I have managed to get everything in the ground except 1 plant, which I lost. (I thought it would last longer than the others because it was lantana, but the pot was too small).

But the reason I've been able to get stuff in the ground is because I've been working less, which means less money, which gets me in hot water with DH anyway!

To get my plant fix I've started planting stuff for my MIL. I am still buying plants, and DH still gets mad, but then he forgives me when he sees how happy his mama is, LOL.

I solved the problem of my hubby complaining about plants in pots - I divided, sowed, or potted up several thousand and I offer some of them for sale at the WF farmer's market every Saturday. He looks at them differently now. Of course since he is not a posie gardener (he's a veggie/fruit/tree man), he really doesn't know which are for me and which are for selling. Hee-hee. Today I bought some more plants on sale at All Year Nursery, Louisburg (buy 2 get 1 free and some 50% off nice stuff). I told him that they are "mother" plants for me to divide or propagate for sale next year. That is the truth for maybe 2 of them, I just neglected to tell him about the others and that I have vacant spots in my landscaped areas that are crying to me to be filled in. With the hot weather they will stay in their pots until our next cooling rain. Or, maybe next year they'll get planted.

I do try to stay in my very real budget for plants, and I do stay away from garden centers - unless there is a good sale and then I am careful about what I fill my cart with. Yeah, right, sure I do.

"Lusts for plants and craves seeds" should be engraved on my forehead.

There's a WF Farmer's Market? Selling flowers??? Where?

I go to Post's Nursery on Louisburg Road sometimes. That's the closest one to me. I don't know about All Year Nursery in Louisburg, either! Where?

Trying to stick to sales. Buried Treasures is having a good sale on bulbs and rhizomes!

Laurabs - WF farmer's market is downtown by the gazebo and next to the railroad tracks - Sat 8 to 12. Triangle John sells his pretty flowers and I do sedums and natives. Both of us will have veggies soon, some other vendors have them already. Lots of other stuff offered by other vendors. Love to meet another gardenwebber!

All Year Nursery is on May road heading into Louisburg on 56.

rootdigger - thanks - now I really have blown the budget all the way into next year!!! Never heard of this site before - drool time. Thanks for pointing and what a cool name!

Roberta, I knew how useless that phrase (That should do it until fall) was the moment that I typed it! ;-)

I am a sucker for plants, and since I still have hit the Farmers Market yet, I am sure I'll get one or two (or seventy-three) more!

A big thank-you Nancy. I start work at 11:00 a.m., so if I can get out early, I'll be there.

I am very proud of myself because when I was going into Wal-Mart last night, I noticed that they were having a 50% off on a lot of their stuff too. Mostly dianthus, but I happened to need some, and while they looked a little dried out, they did look salvageable and here's why I'm so proud . . . I didn't buy anything. They were 1 quart plants for $1.75 and I didn't buy them. I still have 10 hydrangeas to plant, 1 crepe myrtle (from my Mom who potted it up for me and it's now roughly 18 inches tall and 2 feet across), 10 Mexican petunias, and a few begonias and daylillies hanging around. Oh and did I mention, I still am waiting on my order from Bluestone???

It's definitely a sickness!!! But please, nobody call a doctor, because I'm just having way, way, too much fun!!!

Parks Wholesale is having 70% off sale now too. Just ordered a Maple, Iceberg Rose, Fairy Meidiland Rose & Clematis Nelly Moser.

I am not strong enough . . . I cannot and could not resist the tree peonies for $8.99 a pop from Park's. Sigh. I am an addict.

Nancy, ya know since we've about swapped out every thing we own, we have to order new things so we have new stuff for future swaps!! What is wrong with you girl!! LOL

Got my Bluestone order a couple days ago, and put them in the ground today. Everything came through in great shape, and all plants had BIG roots!

Deborahz...honey, all I can say is ENABLER!!! Ordered from Parks, too. Couldn't resist those tree peonies, or the Pelican flower, for that matter.(Yeah, Roberta, I know.)

I am doomed to a life of endless watering entirely of my own doing...

Wayside is having a Buy 1 Get 2 Free Plants and Bulbs. Plus Free Shipping. I resisted but thought you all might be interested. :)

I was never big on ordering through the mail but since becoming addicted to GardenWeb - I have done a Bluestone 1/2 sale, Parks Wholesale, Wayside and of course Thompson Morgan 1/2 price seed sale. You guys on all these various forums are enablers to the max and I LOVE IT...

I've been watching that Wayside sale and so far able to resist. That said I might place an order for later today. I've wanted for 2 years now the striped tiger canna and a couple of the calla's. I get about 2 emails a day from them and I'm not sure how much longer I can resist.

I'm planning on going to Parks the 23rd for their open house. Not sure if its better to order now or do it then. What to do? What to do?

I love watching for sales with Bluestone, Wayside, Park's, and others. Park's and Wayside usually has another Fall sale later on in the year, October or November-ish, if I remember correctly. :)
