Carrie, you probably have Asao or Kakio- both group 2's, but it could also possibly be a Ville de Lyon- group 3, hard prune type.
If you could post a picture when it blooms we can help with identification and pruning advice.
As for pruning right now, I would leave it alone, since you pruned it last year. The roots are stronger after a year and it should be fine now.
Your main concern now is knowing what you have, so that you will know how and when to prune your plant next year for the best bloom. A picture speaks a thousand words, so let us see one when it blooms and we can identify your plant and give easy instructions on pruning and fertilizing.
Congrats on getting that tiny seedling through a season without it's dying ! Most of the tiny, packaged, bare root types sold at Lowes only have a 50/50 chance at survival !
(But, they surely don't tell us that,now do they?) LOL. You did very good.
