Nelly Moser gonna grow ok?

I have two of these, each planted in early 2013. They both got about one flower on them in that year. Late fall I trimmed them back to 2 inch twigs. Right now that is still what I have is 2 twigs in the ground as of April 1st zone 5. So I need to wait it out to see if they grow or did I do an injustice to them by doing such extensive pruning...

Nelly Moser usually dies back to the ground here and grows well the next spring. Think yours are not going to suffer from being cut back. When the weather warms they will put out new growth.

new growth, yes! Here at the last part of April their growth has taken off nicely. I thought they were goners; but no. They are moving into their 3rd year of growth so I won't be cutting them back quite so far this year, I believe...
