Clematis got mowed over by accident

I have my clematis planted in the corner of our chain link fence, and yesterday, my grandfather was going along the fence with his weed whacker and smacked the crap out of it...

All the parts of the plant that were climbing on the fence were sliced off from the base plant. But I dug around the plant a little bit and there are 5 brand new shoots coming up from the main root.

Will having the whole top of my clematis hinder it this year, or will I get to see a bloom?

It will grow back fine, but will have lost any buds set last year. If it is a type 3 which sets buds only on new growth, you can expect to see bloom this year without issues. If it is type 2, you will have lost the first bloom, but will probably see bloom later in the season. If it is type one, you will have probably lost this year's bloom.

Unfortunately (due to my own experiences), this is why fine maintainance (weed whacking) should be performed by the gardener only. Then if you get 'into the zone' and weed whack something...lol, it's happened to me.
However, your growing babies are safer that way.
