I think it looks more like Niobe in flower shape and Niobe is a very common Clematis.

Maggiepie, your Warsaw Nike is definitely purple. When I looked at Joy Creek's photos, Niobe and W. Nike look very similar. Their description says that Niobe is "dark velvety red" and W. Nike is "velvety red-purple" but there is no purple on their photo that I can see :)

Anyway, my clematis in question is not purple for certain. Here is another pic of it:

Joy Creek is here in the Pacific Northwest and colors aren't always the same here or photograph the same here as almost everywhere else because of our cloudy skies.

I have to say that I am fairly new to clematis. I only have about 7-10 of them but Niobe came with the house and it is the only one I have that I don't like. Mine just doesn't do well and does not have a good repeat in Fall.

However, it could be the spot, next to the mailbox.

I knew that cloudy skies are better for taking pictures but I didn't know that it would make so much difference in color. Purple to maroon is quite a difference. From now on, I'll try to find pictures more or less from my "part of town" (Illinois) if I have any questions regarding color. Thank you.
