I'm Bay Area...Sunnyvale. Have Clivias growing in the ground for 25 years. Every 10 yrs or so a good hard freeze turns them to mush, but most of ours come back. Here's a photo from this Spring. I just stumbled on this site. Cool.

Nice broad leaves and beautiful umbels of flowers!! Clivia in a clump always looks more impressive than single plants. So, do not be tempted to devide???

That one is 25 yrs old, and has never been divided. I didn't know that they ever needed to be split up! There are some really big clumps around Pepper trees at some of the old California missions. That is where I first saw Clivia and had to have them. Also, there isn't much else that will grow on the north side of our entry, under a 20' Japanese Maple. These get zero direct sunlight.

I am a new member and am located in San Carlos. I have had Clivias naturalize in my garden for 30 plus years. They are a great plant for this area. The yellows and red do well also, but miniatum is more vigorous.

Hi Fred,

Very nice collection of large plants. There are several Clivia friends around in. They are in Walnut Creek, Sunnyale, HMB, and a few other cities around you. The largest Clivia nursery is also just south of you in Watsonville. That site will make you drool if you ever visit.
