You might want to be careful to not ship insects/disease with the plant. What size is the plant? Pic?

I have shipped them bare rooted with a lot of cardboard support. They get there quickly these days. Spray the roots with water and bag them well then bag the whole plant.

Still it would be good to know what kind of plant.

Would it not be easier to contact a florist ot nursery local in LA?

The Clivia is an interspecies hybrid, I believe, not commercially available or otherwise documented (that I'm aware of). A return to my brother who lost the parent plant and where the climate is better for their growth.

You do not indicate your experience with repotting or with Clivia. Forgive me if I over explain this. You might also find out how the original plant was lost lease you are sending this one to the same destiny.

I have shipped/moved many different plants and will not ship anything out of state unless it is bare root. Some states have severe laws against shipping soil. I am almost positive that California is one. Interestingly enough, there are locations fighting to prevent even the common earthworm from invading their soil.

That said, I have found Clivia to be incredibly durable as they can be neglected all winter without signs of stress. They can still look great in very dry soil. When I received my first one, I divided it without knowing anything about it. I did not even know its name or color. It has survived and bloomed for several years now.

To minimize the risk, and if it large enough to transplant and divide, I would take one of the divisions, wash off all of the soil, clip off the bloom if any, spray the roots with water and put the entire plant into a plastic bag. Ease it into a tube (cardboard, sleeve of a shirt, panty hose...) with padding if needed. Place into a box for shipping. When it is received fresh potting soil and a sterile pot should be used to re-establish it.

It should survive at least a week with out any harm. October (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere) is the latest month you can divide it and still have bloom in the spring. A lot of this depends on the age, condition, and how cramped it is tight now.
