Here is the trellis. Should I put chicken wire on that back area right where the clematis is so it can have more to climb on?
I had to do that to my mail box where I have a large Clematis.

Marie, if the area stays wet, doesn't drain well, and floods quite often, I would move it or mound plant it. Clematis like an adequate supply of water but they don't like to sit in it. If the area is prone to flooding but it occurs only rarely or intermittently, it is going to be a guessing game as to whether to leave it or move it. It all will depend on how long the ground stays totally saturated or if it drains relatively quickly so that the plant's roots aren't in standing water for too long.

I personally don't think you need to add anything to the one leg of the trellis you have the clematis on if you want it to climb that one leg. The clematis appears to have two legs and cross pieces at adequate spacings to cling onto and climb upwards.

Thank you for the responce. It does not flood all the time. In fact that area does not go under water but the woods behind it does when we have hard rains. We built up that area about 2 ft so it would not go under water. The soil is wet though during thsi time and mostly a fill dirt soil. Other times it is dry and I have to water. I really want that clematis there. I will do what I have to.
