mine was new purchased in the fall of 05 and moved in the summer of 06 this year it has came up so beautiful and here in NW MO we are having a very early summer type weather now its going to drop at nite in the low 20s and day 50s should i cover my plant I do so want it to stay healty it is facing straight east brick wall behind it thanks so much

If it is only one Clematis you are worried about protect it. I have 9 I am wondering about but am going to go with not covering them since they are up only about 12". If thy suffer I will call it a bad spring. I am sure new growth will come on quick because they are very healthy. I do wish some expert would jump in though & let us all know how clematis do with 20 temps for a few nights. I hope none of us have to suffer die back.

My one and only Clematis (Elsa Spath) has opened her first bloom yesterday. Will the 20's we are going to see tomorrow and through easter weekend kill the blooms/buds. Is there really a way I can cover a vine. I don't want to cover my mailbox hahaha.

I got what looked like an established SAC last Fall, and I think I pruned it too early this Spring! Looked at it yesterday and all remaining stems are brown and lifeless. Does this one leaf out late, or is there no hope? TIA, Debra.

Debra - Several springs in a row, I thought I had lost my SAC, only to have it come back bigger and better, so I wouldn't give up hope. This one really has a will to live. I'm a zone colder than you, but I don't see signs of life on mine yet, either.
