My first guess would be Ramona but there are tons of those blue-purple type IIs which I believe it falls into the category of being that a positive ID will be difficult. Any info on if it blooms on old vs. new wood or when in the season it first blooms for you would help out.

They were trimmed back down about a month ago, they started blooming a few days ago.
I have another clematis that was identified as a Ramona (huge bloom with large leaves) but this one is smaller, the leaves and bloom.

If it was trimmed back just a month ago and flowering that is a curiously quick recovery time for a plant to put out blooms on new wood. I still think it is a type II clematis. My guess is that you trimmed it back and the flowers are on short stems that originate on older wood. Flower and leaf size can vary on any given plant based on the nutrition the plant got while it was developing. I am still leaning towards Ramona but like I said previously there are tons of blue-purpley type IIs out there that it could be. Perhaps someone more into the type IIs can chime in here with there best guesses. Good luck!!
