Mexican Lemon

I bought two one gallon lemon trees today. They are identified as "mexican lemon" on the tags, but I can't seem to find any information on the web. Does anyone have any information on these? Do they go by any other names?

Well, I can't be sure if this will answer your question, but I've got a tiny little tree that is a Mexican sweet lemon, and I really liked the (single!!) fruit I got off of it--bumpy lemon-yellow skin with prominent oil glands, pretty large fruit for a dinky tree ( med-smallish navel orange size, bigger than a typical grocery store lemon) and tasted like an orange in that it was sweet and had a very mildly acid background, but it was a lemony flavor as opposed to orangey--ate it out-of-hand. Thats the best I can describe it as. Tree itself is lemon in appearance--larger leaves without petioles, tendency to chlorosis this time of year where I am at( like all the neighborhood lemons), and purple-tinged new growth and flowers that open to creamy white. Don't recall if thorny, I cut them off. There is also available here in CA a Mexican sweet lime that also has the purple-tinted new growth (I thought I had read that lemons are distinguishable by purple-tinted new growth but who am I to argue) but I don't know about the fruit on that one yet...anyway, I think my Mexican sweet lemon is sometimes referred to as a ?lima? and may be C. limetta ? (And a sweet lime is a C. limettioides?) Somthing like that. I've also tried to look this stuff up. See link below, look under family Rutacea:

Can you ask the grower? I've asked the nurseries I get stuff at to provide grower contact info and they usually will--even the big box stores will do it.

BTW, I liked the Mexican sweet lemon so much I am going to get another tree at some point.

    HTH.

That sounds sort of like what I bought at a local supermarket. They had these huge (big lemon sized) fruit labeled as 'mexican limes" they had very bumpy skin and were green and turning yellowish. They were not key limes or kaffir either ( I have both those trees and have seen the fruits). They were way too big. Inside they are pale green/yellow and sweet. Not very juicy at all though. I wanted to get seeds but all I found were these tiny tiny seeds which I don't think are valid. Sure would like to find out what they were....
    good luck
