first clematis (jackmanii)......

well, read an article that stated clematis can be planted as soon as the soil is workable. i had just bought my jackmanii a couple weeks ago. now, it looks windburned and pretty tough. this weekend, we are having a cold rain and every now and then see a few flurries. did i get too anxious when it was beautiful out and got it planted? chances of survival?
