I've been a fan of black mulch since the first time I saw it. I think it's because it reminds me of the nice black dirt we could easily obtain up in Wisconsin when I was a kid. The common light soils here just look wrong to me, so that's why I'm such a fan of ammending with dark stuff like cow manure. So to me the black mulch looks fantastic. I love the way it sets of various greens, including my limes, seafoam and bright yellow-greens, and then all the jewel-tone blooms.

The red-dyed mulch was very popular at the same time I was starting with the black mulch.

Now all of a sudden I'm seeing a lot of the black mulch when I walk the dogs in the nearby neighborhoods.
