I've not grown veggies at this home, but I use nepeta in my flower garden to deter rabbits (and because I love it). I also grow a lot of lavender.

Nepeta blooms from spring until frost for me (zone 7) and it emerges early in the spring. It's also very pretty. I trim mine by using cordless hedgetrimmers when the blooms fade and they rebloom. I take the clippings and scatter them around the garden. Walker's Low is a good variety. Bees love it so you'll also get some pollinators for your veggies. I can't say for sure that it will work all the time.

Its not a plant but you can spray yourgarden with hot hot mustard or pepper spray or chili spray. Also dip cotton balls in fox pee and put them in and around strategically in your garden. Soak corn cobs in vinager every 2 weeks and place them around too. We have our pet rabbits that love to dig in and around our plants. They just love the brussell sprouts (the one thing I have a hard time growing lol) Good luck :)

Some one mentioned fox pee. You can buy commercially available products that contain small quantities of predator urine (coyote, fox, etc.) The rabbits and other varmints have a far keener sense of smell than we do and will vacate any place that smells like their enemies. So no need to worry about how to acquire the necessary ingredient or having your garden smell like an outhouse.Give it a try.

Where do you buy the fox urine product? Someone (who moved) gave us some, it worked great for keeping the raccoons off our deck. Every morning I have to clean up after the *%#@ raccoons!
