I am planning to transplant a clematis on where my old climbing rose used to be. The intended area is a very thin (9 inches depth x one foot length) strip of dirt along my concrete driveway. The rest of the strip is lined with very lush liriope grasses. The rose had no problems blooming and so did my canna lilies which sprouted from seed, and not intentionally planted there. Now I am trying to see if I can plant a clematis on this 9 " x 1' spot or is this a crazy idea...Also, there might be some water and detergent run off in times when I wash my car so will this kill the clematis if there are planted there? I have a feeling that this is a ridiculous question but my friend who is an avid gardener told me that if a rose can grow and flourish in that area, anything will, even a clematis. I just wanted to get a second opinion.Thanks to anyone who can offer their wisdom and valuable advice!
