Just planted my first clematis and I have a ?

Hi,

I just planted two Jackmanii clematis along the chimney on the west side of my house. The vines were tiny mail order type plants. I haven't put in my trellis yet - the plants need to go about 15" to reach it. How much time do you think I'll have before I need to get the trellis in? Going on vacation soon and really don't feel like building it until I get back.

You should have plenty of time. Clematis "sleep" the first year, "creep" the second, and "leap" the third. Enjoy your vacation.
