Companion Plants

fennel as a companion

I've read here and there that fennel makes a poor companion to other plants...that it sucks out all of the nutrients from the soil, and other plants are deprived. Is this true? I have fennel in my butterfly garden. Some of its companions are ok, and some look like they could do better. What's your experience?

That it reseeds everywhere!!!

A friend gave me one plant about three years ago and told me butterflies liked to lay their eggs in it. So, I planted it in a large perennial bed. It has had no adverse affect on the other plants, it just reseeds like crazy!!!

Fennel has a reputation as being incompatible with beans, caraway, dill, kohlrabi, tomato, & wormwood .
