chives and ivy?

Would these two very different plants co-exist in a pot or will they do each other in?

I'd like to do a tall lolipop topiary with the ivy in a large clay pot completely underplanted with chives. I figure with a little grooming the chives could resemble "grass" under the "tree"...and season my food at the same time.

Whaddaya think?

I think it sounds nice and I'd think they would co-exist, but it might be good to run it by the group in container gardening. Some of them do all sorts of things, and have some great ideas.

Thanks for your reply. I will ask the good folks over on container gardening...If I don't hear I will try it anyway and post results with a pic. in the fall. I have been using those water filled teepees to try to get some tomatoes started early in a barrel planter. The tomatoes are not happy...however the chives in the planter (winter survivors) have LOVED the extra protection and are about 10" tall already. Made me laugh....

Some say chives are drought toleratn but I do notice they love lots of water....... Will the ivy grow in shade or sun????? Most will not grow in sun..... if so chives may grow in sun/shade but will not blossom...... they're better in part sun or sunnier conditions for flowering...... :) ...... :)
