Before overwintering question

I have two brugs that are in the blooming phase. Being in N.Mn., it's obvious I don't have weather on my side to wait until they bloom. The plants are in their first year of blooming which means I don't know what color the blooms are thus far. I'm thinking of bringing them in to my home until they finish blooming at which time I will be able to mark and identify for next year what color the blooms are. But, I'm also concerned about aphids. I would estimate I'd probably need about 2-3 wk. for the plant to flush. Would the overwintering cycle work if I put the plant in darkness around mid Nov.? I've not overwintered them previously by stripping leaves and storing in a dark, cool room.
