Companion for pineapple sage

Janine Starykowicz

I grow pineapple sage each year in a large pot. Flowers underneath get shaded out and/or outcompeted for water. Pole beans grew great last year, but the sage seemed to grow away from them, wasn't as tall and full as usual.

The only thing on the Wikipedia list is rosemary. I don't think that would overwinter in a pot, and this pot won't fit through any doors. I also till up the dirt every year and replace part of it.

Would onions work? Any other annuals?
