Harry..what you are seeing is very common hon...Baby Clematis blooms are usually smaller as well as the leaves..the blooms can often be off colour etc...You are seeing the true form of your Clematis now..that happens with age...Isn't it exciting?..Jeanne

I agree wholeheartedly with what Jeanne said. Compare the stems exiting the ground of a new clematis with one that has been in the ground for several years. The older stems are larger since the plant has been in place longer. Likewise, the buds, flowers, and leaves on older plants are often larger than on younger plants.

Here is a picture of a leaf on my Tie Dye plant this year. It is almost as big as my hand. In previous years, the leaves were no where near this large. I expect great things out of the plant this year as far as blooms and bloom size go. The plant is already taller than it has ever been.

No secret Jeanne and Hoovb. When I prepped the bed originally I put a lot of llahma poop in it. Since then nothing but just regular fertilizer. Buds are beginning to open but we are in the 90s today. Hope it doesn't hurt the flowering.

I can't believe how mine have all went crazy this year, it's also the third year for many of them, I was excited to see them getting fuller and bigger.
