Dahlias or other warm colored flowering plants would really set the place ablaze or something tropical looking, maybe Crocosmia (there are many varieties), Cannas or other bold foliage sun loving plants.

Depends how you've got it growing. What's it growing up? If it's growing up a manmade support or building, any annuals and perennials that grow in full sun will do well in the front of the bed. If it's growing among shrubbery, then stick to shrubbery, as Trumpet Vine can get out of control quickly.

Does Lantana do well in your area. I have one call Sonrise planted beneath mine. Wonderful combinations. Oranges, yellows and reds.

Can someone help me - I live in Wisconsin and two years now I've had to replace my trumpet vine after the winter - because it had died... Last year I covered the base with straw - but it didn't make it. Although, all summer it bloomed beautifully. I don't know what I can do but I need some suggestions - I love the vine...

the obvious one is to turn it into a potted plant, and let it winter in the garage, but you may want to take a chance on moving it to the most sheltered spot in your garden, preferrably a southern exposure, pruning it back to chest-high, mulching it deeply- and then take a circle of that black weed-stop mesh, and covering the mulch with that. it will pull some extra heat to the root area, without cooking anything. Are there other trumpets in your area? I wonder if you'll have the only one to survive.
