Clematis outgrowing trellis

I have two clematis growing on a trellis in my garden. Both are outgrowing the trellis.

What is the best way to maintain the vines? Add something else for them to climb on? Or can I trim back the new growth at the top? Or should I trim them down lower?

I did not prune them because I wasn't sure which type they are, nor exactly how to do it!
