Hello everyone,

I had an armandii clematis a few years ago that seemed to be dying from the bottom upwards. Just before it died I took a few cuttings and planted them in various mediums to see if any would root. One did root and I babied it for a year or so. My problem is that it only has one stem and it's bald for the bottom 8-10 feet. I'm afraid to cut it down because the top is very nice and has bloomed its heart out this year. Is there anything that I can do to encourage new growth from the base?
