Jackie, your typical weather sounds like ours. Your picture is beautiful. Don't you just love Blue Light? I even like the blooms when the outer petals fall off leaving only the central staminodes.

Jeanne it took four years before I saw a bloom on mine. It was a teeny tiny piece of root from a Wayside sale. It must've been making lots of good roots underground all those years because now it's huge and it's covered in buds. I hope yours stops sulking and gets with the program!

Jackie, I got mine from Direct Gardening( same company as Wayside). The first clem I received last year, I planted in the ground. Didn't see any signs of life. I now have a second one, the replacement, planted in a pot. It is showing signs of life! Any pointers for me to keep it alive?

Theresa I got mine from Wayside and did everything wrong with it! It was a tiny thing about six inches long with no growth at all, just some roots and a tip.
I should have potted it, but I planted it in the garden in the worst possible place in deep shade by my garage with lots of taller plants in front of it! I'm amazed it lasted the winter that year (I got it in October). After two years in that position, I finally dug it up and moved it to this much better location. It's taken a few more years but I think it's finally happy and giving me a show.

In other words, I just got lucky lol. I think you're smart to listen to the folks here and keep it in that pot so you can monitor it and feed and water it well.

Ha! Just for fun I looked through my photo archives and found the pic I took of the Blue Light and Josephine I got from the Wayside Fall sale in 2004. Here they are! It's a wonder they lived, but they DID.

Jackie, those look like the bareroots I got from Van Bourgondien back when I ordered Harlow Carr, Wisely, and Rosemoor several years ago. It is amazing that something so pathetically small and insignificant can grow into such large sized plants.
