Very, VERY nice!!! What kind of wood is that? The designs are great! The tree with the bird house on it... is that a dawn redwood? You live in BC... What zone? I could be wrong, but those clems may not make it over the winter in the above ground planters. You may want to insulate the planters. Just to be safe... If it was me I would put some loose bubble wrap around them and fill the gap with leaves or straw and mulch the plants themselves.

Well the planters are made of cedar. Unfortunately I dont know the name of the tree but there are hundreds of them in the neighbourhood. Yeah i do insulate the planters. I have one in the front I forgot to show which I cut out left over styrafoam to fit. And it has always (so far - touch wood) made it through the winters. Our winters arent too bad though - living in the outskirts of Vancouver. This is the one in the front I forgot to post. The tage said Blue Ravine - but it is not - I think its HF. Young. By the way thanks so much !! Golden

The tree is a western red cedar, Thuja plicata, which is a native common to many areas of the west coast. And there is little need to insulate planters in the PNW, unless very small or for rather tender plants. I grow a huge number of plants in permanent container plantings as well as a good number of clematis that have yet to make it into permanent, in-ground homes in containers year round and have never lost a single plant to cold. I don't provide protection for any of them (nor do we at my nursery, either). Vancouver B.C. outskirts should be a comparable zone.

Very nice golden_ca_2000! Thanks for posting that. That gives me an idea! LOL! I agree... that one does look like HF Young.

Love those planters. Especially the corner one.

Gardengal is right, no need to worry about Clematis in winter where you are in Vancouver BC. :)
