The ones you've picked are good ones to start with. I would plant HH where it gets some p.m. shade so the color doesn't fade so much. The ones that bloom most on new wood produced the same season (type 3's or C's) tend to be the easiest to care for. You chop them to the ground late each winter, though The Prez is a great type 2 (blooms also on old wood).

I started my collection from the 5 Clematis bought at Bluestone's 50% off sale 3 years ago. All of them are growing nicely for me. They are having the same sale right now. Good plants (Donahue's 2.5" pots, with excellent rootballs). They have Niobe and Mme Julia Correvon from your list. My favorite from their selection is 'Arctic Queen'. I have more than 50 Clematis now... Go figure...

This is my newest obsession with plants too. I started with antique roses now I'm into clematis. Success breeds success. The type III have been good to me. I'm up over 100 different varieties I think.

Well, I took Alina's advice and went to Bluestone. I only came away with two!! Plus a few other necessities. LOL!!
Clematis Huldine & Gravetye Beauty. Guess I like a simple, natural look.
Can't wait till they get here - I'll have to fix a new spot however - the work never stops, does it?
