I bought a 102 yr old victorian last July. It had a clematis that still had a few blooms. I believe it bloomed slightly again a month or so later. Not knowing what I was doing, I dug it up an moved it to another location in Sept. At this time I cut it down to almost nothing. I worried I had killed it all winter, but it is ready to bloom any day now! My question, after reading more on this subject, is how do I determine what category my clematis is to properly trim it this fall? I have noticed that it only has blooms on the top 2/3 or the plant this year. Does this mean it is an "A" or "1"? I don't want to fly by the seat of my pants again. I feel quite lucky it survived my barbaric tranplanting technique already....Help!!!
