Aliska, mine clings too. I have it growing with a rose and it just heaves itself right up through that rose!

Yep, even Edith Malek, the president of the American Clematis Society, said that Rooguchi didn't cling in one of the ACS newsletters. I wrote her back and told her of my experience with it and she checked with Wim Snoeijer, a clematis hybridizer who is a member of the society and confirmed that it did cling in his experience. Edith says that it doesn't cling in her garden--perhaps it is a zonal thing since she lives in southern California.

I have an Alionushka that similarly clings, perhaps not as frequently or as tenaciously as Rooguchi does, but it does indeed. Only goes to show you that clematis don't read books as to what they are and aren't supposed to do.

Your responses made me chuckle on a dreary rainy morning. I'm glad to know others have shared my experience with it. I suppose it is possible that there could be variants.

Now that I know it will do that, it opens up new possibilities for it. I just love it, blooms its heart out all summer long without ceasing and such a pretty shade of blue, slight tinge of purple, one of the truest blues you can get.

It's certainly more aggressive than I ever expected, probably not as much as some others, and have it in too confined a spot but hate to trim it back. I have had to disentangle some of it.

One rose is struggling from winter dieback, but I guess it won't hurt if I let it scramble through the other ones.

I don't have Rooguchi but I have noticed a difference among the various integrifolias. Durandii, Juuli, Arabella, Petite Faucon, integrifolia, Gazella, Pangbourne Pink and Fascination don't cling at all but Inspiration and Alionushka do.

Haven't really noticed Inspiration or Zoin clinging yet BorS, but it must do something along those lines because it is draped all up and down on one of my trellis and I don't know how it could do that without having some tendrils that are holding it in place. Here is a partial picture of it along with Alba Luxurians. Also seems I remember a post by Diggerdave where it was draped all along a fence.
