Need to move my young Clematis

Hello. I planted 4 bare root Clems last fall behind a hedge. I got them from Home Depot... I planted it hoping it would climb it and provide some colorful interest. I have a gardening area that's about 15'x10' and very very sunny.

My issue is.... I cut down the hedge to allow for more planting room. LOL!! Now my Clems are about 6 inches tall in the front of my garden with nothing to climb on! They're planted in an area that gets full sun. Should I transplant now (spring) or wait until the fall? I'm afraid that the roots may get too big to dig up. I'm newbie and don't really have all the 'tools' to do what I need to do in the garden. LOL. Should I put them in a pot? I'll post picture tomorrow when it's daytime. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

As promised, here is the picture. I will post another one witha close-up but the Clems are behind the stumps. Should I put them in a pot now? I don't want the root ball to get so big I can damage the plant. Any help?

How about adding some support there? Is that feasible?

If you prefer to move it, I would move it now, so that it has the growing season to adjust to a new home. With a 6" clematis, you can treat it like many other young plant seedlings. After the transplant, be sure to water in well and monitor it for the next few weeks.

Move now not fall. Those are so tiny that I would pot into a gallon pot with potting soil for the season but that is just me...I have a more mature garden where tiny seedlings like that would get lost...

I will repot this weekend. Do I need any special soil? I have Miracle Grow potting soil. Is that good?

Watch the watering. I used it once. Rotted out my entire greenhouse over the winter. It did not drain well for me. You aren't going to keep them potted long though, just to get some growth on them.

plant them deep in the pot and pinch back the tips of every vine.
