What's the deal

So can someone tell me what's going on here? This is my first clematis, I planted it, two of the vines started to wilt, but the two others were fine, so I cut the two down. Then, a week or so later, the others started to wilt, and as they started to wilt, they starte to turn black/dark grey.

We have had a lot of rain.

This is fairly common behavior for young Clems.

Cut the entire plant down to 12" tall and fertilize it with some rotted manure or compost.

IF you did not plant it 4" deeper in the ground than it was in the nursery pot, you should dig it up and do so.

So there is still hope I guess? I guess I will just hope for better luck next year.

yes, there is still hope. Clematis are not instant gratification type plants. They take at least three years to get established.
