Gardengirl..I am just mad about Clematis "Voluceau"..she is a wonderful pruning group 3 and was magnificent for her year 2 for me..She is a more purply-red in my gardens...I've already hard pruned her again and awaiting her to grow back up and rebloom...Jeanne

My vote would go to Niobe. Julia Correvon is more of a reddish pink in my garden. Warsaw Nike is also another reddish purple in my garden. Don't know how it would do in your garden but Gravetye Beauty is another option.

Thanks for the good feedback. I have Julia Correvon but she's never really taken off. I planted her with hope she would weave into my Juddii virburnum but she goes back too deep in the foliage and I never see her. Maybe I will have to plant another one somewhere else.

Miguel, is Gravetye Beauty subject to mildew? I've stayed away from the Texensis for that reason since we live in a pretty humid environment.

It can be subject to mildew in my garden gardengirl but you never can tell which ones will mildew or not in any individual's garden until you try them!
