Blue Light can produce blooms that resemble both of your pictures. I grow it and have seen both bloom types on the same plant. Blue Light will bloom double on old wood and single on new wood and requires winter chill to bloom double so any single blooms you have are ones blooming on new wood.

My Blue Light was trimmed to the ground this past winter so all I am getting this year are the single blooms.

Multi-Blue always looks like the middle picture but darker.

Never like the top and bottom pictures. I've had mine for over five years and it is always fully double even after hard pruning and/or moving it.

I think you have three Blue Lights.

I grow both Blue Light and Multi-Blue. The pictures all look like Blue Light. Definitely not Multi-Blue which is darker blue with violet/plum stamenoids.

I want my Blue Light to get like Miguels!(I sure miss him and his knowledge!)
On my label I have "prune after flowering" but I see that Miguel said he pruned it in winter. So guess he answered my question after all! I also notice that the trellis he has his on is rather short. So does Blue Light stay short in this area of the country??-- SE NC.
It has beautiful flowers but my vine isn't full. Guess because of the time/way I have pruned it!

His sage wisdom is immortalized in these forums and I hope they are forever here!!..You didn't say how old your "Blue Light" is..hard pruning forces clematis to send more vines from the soil..."Blue Light" is one that only gets 6-6 1/2 feet tall..Yes in comparison to many it is a short height variety...Jeanne

thanks Mine is several years old. I just haven't pruned it correctly or something!!! Just has several stems.
